In this podcast we’ll practice with “few” and “a few”.

When should you use this word? Here are a few examples (2 or 3 examples equals ‘a few’).

For example, if I have 40 friends and three of them speak Russian, it is correct to say “A few of my friends speak Russian.”

Another example: I want to buy lunch but I only have three dollars. So I might say, “I only have a few dollars. Can I pay with a credit card?”

Let’s begin.

1. A few of my friends speak French.

2. She has a few dollars.

3. Few people in Paris speak Basque.

4. Can you lend me a few Euros?

5. Every year, fewer students study English literature.

6. I read the book Krakatoa by Simon Winchester a few months ago.

7. She got a new job a few weeks ago.

8. Doing the dishes will only take a few minutes.

9. I have many questions but few answers.

10. The missing child was found a few kilometers from her home. Fortunately she was okay.

11. Our team scored fewer goals than our opponents.

12. He took a few steps and then started to run.

13. There were few survivors of the sinking of the Titanic.

14. I can help you for a few minutes. Then I have to leave for work.

15. She owns a few pairs of shoes but none of them are yellow.
